2013 MKT is Waiting for You

Posted: February 01, 2012  |  by: Blog Editor  |  source: Motor Trend
The 2013 MKT has taken some hints from the Town Car. The refreshed crossover can be driven by an individual or chauffeur. We'll let you decide.

Take a good look at the 2013 Lincoln MKT crossover’s face: you may be seeing lots more of it at an airport near you in the form of the MKT Town Car model. Lincoln boldly styled crossover has been refreshed for the 2013 model year, just like the full-size 2013 Lincoln MKS sedan. As an individual- or chauffeur-driven luxury crossover/family wagon. From the front, it’s immediately apparent that Lincoln has added more vertical slats to the dual-opening grille that leads your eye to the Lincoln badge. The reshaped hood has a thick character line starting from that badge, serving as yet another detail distinguishing the MKT from the mechanically similar Ford Flex. Lightly restyled lower front fascia is an improvement, as are the new wheels pictured in the 2013 MKT photos below. Inside, the 2013 Lincoln MKT crossover features some serious changes compared to the outgoing 2012 MKT. The steering wheel buttons have moved upward to a more usable location on the spokes, while the instrument cluster is more modern, using the futuristic look we first saw in the Ford Fusion Hybrid. Lincoln has opted for a darker look on the center stack for 2013, with redesigned controls thanks to MyLincoln Touch.

The 2013 MKZ Debut

Posted: January 10, 2012  |  by: Blog Editor  |  source: Detroit Free Press
LINCOLN has made some major changes to the MKZ including a new winged split grill, panoramic roof, and a new engine system.

The new 2013 Lincoln MKZ will have a variety of engine choices, including at least one hybrid. The car will launch initially with just EcoBoost gasoline engines, said Ford CEO Alan Mulally. But "there will be a hybrid in the family," said Chief Financial Officer Lewis Booth. "The reinvention is under way," Jim Farley, global head of sales and marketing, said Tuesday at the global debut of a concept that is based on the production model that will go on sale this fall. Because the design of the production model was finished before the concept was finalized, little imagination is needed to envision what the final product will look like. Door handles must be added, the side mirrors will be larger and the production MKZ will be a five-seater whereas the concept has only four seats. Exact details of the engines to be offered will be revealed when the production model is shown this spring at the New York auto show. The MKZ could share some 4-cylinder EcoBoost engines with the Fusion but they can be calibrated to change everything from noise control to the suspension system and electronic throttle control, said Scott Tobin, vehicle line director. The MKZ is also expected to have an 8-speed automatic transmission, continuously controlled damping to adjust the suspension to the drive and a host of other new technologies. Farley would not say if Ford will continue the practice of offering a Lincoln hybrid for the same price as the gasoline version but said that current practice is proving very successful. "The MKZ is the flag bearer from a volume and image standpoint," said Michael Robinet, managing director of IHS Automotive Consulting in Northville. "You start at the core of the market and expand out," Robinet said Lincoln's resurgence starts with the high-volume MKZ and will end with the MKS full-size sedan which just received a freshening to tide it over for a couple years. Mulally said the company is planning a full marketing push for Lincoln to promote the MKZ as the volume leader for the brand going forward. "It will pull everyone into the family." "We spent time working on the vehicle to get it right," said C.J. O'Donnell, head of Lincoln marketing and the first member of the Lincoln team created in 2010. "The first steps for Lincoln have to be exactly right," he said.

What Does the 2013 MKT Have In Store?

Posted: December 13, 2011  |  by: Blog Editor  |  source: Car and Driver
The MKT is getting some tweaks for the 2013 model. You can expect a thinner grill, stronger engine, and much more tech.

Just like the Ford Flex with which it shares its platform, Lincoln's big MKT is receiving a mid-cycle refresh for 2013. The three-row crossover gets a restyled grille that's less mouthy than before, a power bump for its base V-6, and a host of new luxury and technology content. As if to emphasize the MKT's newfound style, Lincoln is debuting it along with the refreshed 2013 MKS sedan. The 2013 MKT's biggest stylistic departure is its tweaked split-waterfall grille that now features thinner, more-elegant slats than before. The move is both expected recent spy photos revealed the slimmer slats and welcome. the 2013 MKT's styling tweaks, there are a few notable mechanical updates. Lincoln had already pared the MKT lineup to two trim levels for 2012, a base front-driver powered by the 3.7-liter V-6 and an uplevel all-wheel-drive version powered by the 355-hp, EcoBoost V-6 and this scheme carries over to the 2013 car. We never had any qualms with the MKT's ride, which was already fairly buttoned down for such a cushy and smooth setup, but Lincoln took things a step further for 2013. EcoBoost-equipped MKTs now have a standard adaptive suspension along with Lincoln Drive Control, which is Lincoln's fancy name for selectable suspension and drive modes. Drivers can select Normal, Sport, or Comfort drive settings. The first two are selected not by a button on the console but by moving the shift lever into either Drive or Sport. The MKT's roster of techno doo-dads grows a bit longer for 2013, with the large Lincoln gaining a lane-keeping assist system and an updated version of MyLincoln Touch. Lane Keeping Alert and Aid which can be disabled, vibrates the steering wheel to warn drivers when they're leaving their lane without signaling. Should they continue down this path, it uses the MKT's electric power steering to gently tug the vehicle back toward the center of its lane. MyLincoln is standard across the MKT range, and receives the same updates the MyFord Touch interface receives for 2013. Like in the MKX, the MKT's volume and fan-speed are now controlled by touch-sensitive slider controls. Another new gadget is Driver Alert. Like Mercedes' Attention Assist, this system monitors the driver's inputs and, when it senses he is getting drowsy, nags him by sounding a chime and displaying a highly jarring coffee-cup icon in the gauge cluster. The 2013 also cribs the Explorer's inflatable rear seatbelts for outboard second-row passengers, and the brakes at all four corners have been upsized to help bring the porky MKT to a stop. The new safety and infotainment gizmos join the previously available collision warning, adaptive cruise control, Active Park Assist, and blind-spot monitoring systems.

The 2012 MKT Does it Again

Posted: October 28, 2011  |  by: Blog Editor  |  source: The Car Connection
The 2012 MKT didn't have to go through a whole redesign to make it a leader. From it's high safety quality to its roomy cabin the 2012 MKT has it all.

The MKT's road manners are anything but loose and loping, more continental than Continental. The base 3.7-liter V-6 is indifferent in the way it gathers speed, especially when it's laden with the extra few hundred pounds of all-wheel drive. Apply turbocharging to the same engine and the EcoBoost MKT takes flight, with a blast of torque and a pair of paddle shifters for its six-speed automatic that will encourage you to do some silly things with the more than 5000-pound MKT. It can truly hustle, as an EcoBoost--and if it didn't weigh so much, or sit so long, its handling would come off as even more capable. Fuel economy isn't a strong suit, though--it's as low as 16/22 mpg with the turbo versions. The MKT's huge, classy interior can seat six or seven passengers, and even three adults across the second row will find some air between themselves, something you can't say about a Boeing 757. The six-passenger version turns the second-row bench into twin buckets just as comfortably upholstered as those in front--and with a refrigerator tucked between them for all kinds of beverages, adult or not. The third-row seat is almost large enough to host adults, too, but it's mainly intended for kids, or to be folded flat. The MKT's ranked well for safety by the IIHS, which calls it a Top Safety Pick, but the NHTSA hasn't re-scored it beyond a four-star rollover-resistance rating, under its new criteria. But the MKT comes standard with curtain airbags and stability control, as well as parking sensors, blind-spot monitors and a rearview camera. Other features bundled in as standard equipment include a huge fixed sunroof; dual-zone climate control; a keyless entry pad hidden on the door frame; pushbutton start with MyKey, which lets drivers set safety features like radio volume and maximum speed; and SYNC, Ford's Bluetooth-driven voice controller for audio, phone and navigation systems.

Stay In Tune at 4 Levels with SmartGauge

Posted: September 29, 2011  |  by: Blog Editor  |  source: Lincoln.com
The 2012 LINCOLN MKZ's SmartGauge is an advanced LCD instrument panel that lets you know just how you're driving. There are four different displays to choose from depending on what you need to know.

The 2012 LINCOLN MKZ Hybrid is America’s most fuel-efficient luxury hybrid with a best in class 41 city mpg rating. An instrument panel, SmartGauge, will help you hit that mark. Four display settings on an LCD screen show a multitude of instruments depending on how much information you need. The LINCOLN MKZ SmartGuadge cluster is built to increase driving efficiency. The first display, Inform, has a high-voltage battery instrument gauge. This helpful tool shows how much battery life is stored in your LINCOLN MKZ, which is accompanied by the fuel gauge on the other side. The fuel gauge is illuminated with an amber color. When you’re getting low on fuel (50 miles or less) the display turns bright yellow, then red when it’s critically low. These are your standard tools for those times when you don’t need to take in that much information. Move up to Enlighten and get more in tune with your hybrid; adding two new gadgets. Let’s start with the tachometer and electric vehicle mode gauge. This display let’s you know whether you’re driving in electricity (EV) or gas (RPM). The Instantaneous fuel economy gauge is located on the other side and provides you with real-time look at your mpgs. Engage display gets more in depth with your hybrid, letting you know whether you’re driving in electric mode or gas. The biggest difference here is that you’ll know what your engine output is when driving in EV or RPM by viewing the Spilt Power gauge. Also, know if your battery is charging while you’re braking. Want to get the absolute most out of your MKZ hybrid? Empower, the fourth and final display adds an Accessory Power gauge. Be able to adjust how much power is being drawn from the battery by seeing how much power the air conditioning, headlamps, audio system or other accessories are using. These displays takes even modern instruments and makes them state-of-the-art. Which leads to the most impressive instrument featured on your LCD instrument panel. To the far right and available on every display mode the Ecoguide. As you drive more efficiently leaves will start to grow. This is how you’ll know if your short-term driving is efficient. The longer you keep it up the more vines that’ll grow eventually leading the budding of flowers indicated the very best long-term fuel economy. Everything about the LINCOLN MKZ SmartGuauge is designed for maximum efficiency and coming standard on all trim levels.

New LINCOLNs for 2012 and Beyond

Posted: September 15, 2011  |  by: Blog Editor  |  source: Automotive News
LINCOLN is rebuilding and revamping much of their line up starting with the LINCOLN Navigator which could have an Ecoboost engine. There are also plans in the works to redesign the LINCOLN MKX and introduce a new crossover.

When LINCOLN introduced the LINCOLN Navigator in 1998, it beat arch-rival Cadillac to market with a large luxury SUV by a solid year. According to Automotive News, LINCOLN will be revamping its entire lineup in the coming years, and it will add an EcoBoost engine under the hood of the LINCOLN Navigator. The first of LINCOLN's refreshed vehicles are expected to be the both the Navigator and the LINCOLN MKT. While a full-fledged redesign is on hold, the Navigator is expected to gain the same engines as the Ford F-150, including its popular 3.5-liter EcoBoost V-6. The LINCOLN MKT is also expected to get a light facelift in either 2012 or 2013. The facelift (as the name implies) will entail changes to its baleen whale grille and its taillights. It is also expected that the revised LINCOLN MKT will get a slightly updated interior. All-new for 2013 will be a small LINCOLN crossover based on the next-generation Ford Escape/Kuga. While there aren't many more details available on the 2013 LINCOLN small crossover, we do know that it will be based on the same platform as the current-generation Ford Focus. A LINCOLN crossover will likely be similar in execution to the Land Rover Range Rover Evoque. In 2014, LINCOLN is expected to redesign the recently-refreshed LINCOLN MKX crossover. The LINCOLN MKX's formula shouldn't change drastically, as it has proven relatively successful for LINCOLN. The 2014 LINCOLN MKX will be built on Ford's global mid-sized platform along with the next Ford Edge.

LINCOLN MKT with Ecoboost Drops $3000 off MSRP

The luxury three-row crossover ecoboost model will drop by $3000. The ecoboost engine gives you a the power of a V8 with a V6's fuel economy.

LINCOLN will be reducing the price of its LINCOLN MKT luxury three-row crossover equipped with its advanced turbocharged V6 engine by $3,000. The move is likely indeed to spur greater demand for the EcoBoost-equipped LINCOLN MKT. Thanks to turocharging and other technology, the EcoBoost delivers V8-power combined with V6 fuel economy. The LINCOLN MKT with the 3.7-liter is rated 17 city, 24 highway, 20 combined while the 3.5-liter EcoBoost is rated at 16/23/18. “You judge a luxury car by how it feels. You judge a luxury car by how it looks and the experience of actually driving it,” said Kate Pearce, LINCOLN consumer marketing manager. “You’ll feel the difference the moment you get into a LINCOLN, especially with the confidence-inspiring EcoBoost engine.”

The Family Crossover to a Higher Plane

Posted: July 11, 2011  |  by: Blog Editor  |  source: Family Car Guide
From its grille to the sleek interior styling and loaded with the top technology a safety packages. The 2011 LINCOLN MKX is a complete luxurious Crossover for the family.

For 2011, LINCOLN's paid mind to the mid-size crossover, giving it an interior and new technology far more fitting its place in the market, and wrapping it in subtly--and not so subtly--updated sheetmetal that does more to highlight its upscale niche and its spacious five-seat interior. Like the Edge, the LINCOLN MKX is a beefy crossover, and its bulk pays off in business-class situations like taking work colleagues to lunch. The front seats are wide, decently shaped and surrounded by great head room and good knee space. The back seat's almost as commodious as the one in the seven-passenger LINCOLN MKT crossover, with a nicely angled backrest and fold-flat capability to open up the interior to more cargo. With the rear seatback in the upright position. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) gives the LINCOLN MKX its Top Safety Pick award, and Ford offers just about every safety tech aid it has in its parts bin to the crossover. Blind-spot monitors and a rearview camera are standard, and radar cruise control is available. The huge winged grille across its front end is almost a mismatch with its otherwise tailored shape, but the LINCOLN MKX comes to a cohesive, show-stopping place inside. The interior's taken over by MyLINCOLN Touch, which replaces knobs and buttons and gauges with LCD screens, steering-wheel buttons and voice controls in an effort to limit driver distraction. Want to change the radio to news? You can cycle through presets displayed inside the LCD gauges, or press a button and say "Fox News" and MyLINCOLN Touch takes over. It's had glitches, and it's certainly a 180-degree departure from even the more complex knob- and voice-controlled systems from Audi, BMW and even Kia. The 2011 LINCOLN MKX has one powertrain: a 305-horsepower, 3.7-liter V-6 teams up with a six-speed SelectShift automatic transmission, and a choice of front- or all-wheel drive. Electronic power steering reacts more quickly than in the past, and that helps the MKX feel a bit lighter than its 4500-pound curb weight. With its luxe new look and cabin room, the 2011 LINCOLN MKX elevates the family crossover to a higher plane than the typical economy-class fare.
